Science is not just a boring subject that you have to study at school. It can help you out in your daily life.
Here’s one example. Often, mirrors in bathrooms or on cars become fogged up. This can be dangerous because a lot of accidents happen when you can’t see clearly what’s in the mirrors. Don’t worry. Science can solve this problem. You can try using water mixed with soap to clear the mirror with a piece of cloth. The mirror will shine all day long!
How does this work? Scientists say that mirrors become not clear when a large number of very small drops of water are on their surface. The small drops of water gather on the mirror because of “surface tension (表面張力)” of water. But when you wipe the mirror with soapy water, the surface tension will become lower. This way, the small drops of water will not come together on the mirror easily. However, although soapy water works well, it doesn’t mean that your mirror will be clear and bright all the time. You still need to clean your mirrors with soapy water every several days in order to keep them clear.
As you learn more about science, you will discover that there are many new and interesting things that you can do to make your life easier.
