(四)短文聽解

1~2. M: Have you ever thought of becoming a flight attendant? Getting a job as a flight attendant is not easy. Recently, an airline in Taiwan intended to hire 100 flight attendants, and about 1000 people applied! To be a good flight attendant, you need to have excellent English skills in order to communicate well with most passengers. What’s more, you must have good “people skills.” For example, some passengers may get mad at flight attendants and be very rude, but flight attendants must control their own feelings. This is not an easy thing to do especially at the end of a long and busy flight! Finally, you must keep fit so that you can stand, walk, and lift things all day long, while keeping a smile on your face all the time.

3~4. W: In modern times, people in countries like Taiwan and the United States have more than enough to eat. Despite all the food we eat, many of us do not get enough vitamins and other things which our bodies need to be healthy. Take vitamin D, for example. Three-fourths of American adults and teens do not have enough vitamin D. As we all know, the best way to get vitamin D is from exposing to the sun. Our skin makes vitamin D when sunlight hits it. However, many people do not have enough vitamin D even in countries which get lots of sun every day. Although we have to be careful not to get too much sun, it is a bad idea to avoid the sun completely.

5~6. M: Snakes On A Plane is a crazy action movie. Hundreds of snakes have been put in an airplane to kill a passenger named Sean Jones. The snakes are in suitcases with special locks which have been set to let them out at different times. Some bad guys want to kill Sean because he will reveal information in court which will help the police put them in jail. The bad guys hope that the snakes will either bite Sean or cause the plane to crash. Someone from the FBI who is traveling with Sean tries to protect him and fight off the snakes in any way that he can.

4~5.

M: This storm is really scary!

W: Tell me about it! The plane keeps going up and down, and it drives me crazy.

M: Well, this is normal. Planes shake up and down and side to side when the weather is really bad.

W: [Worried] Won’t the plane be struck by lightning? Ooh, I’m too young to die!

M: Relax. Planes are designed to take lightning strikes.

W: How can I relax? My stomach is going up and down. Oh dear! I feel like throwing up.

M: Here are some bags. Try to avoid thinking about the feeling. Drinking some soda or Coke may help.

W: Thanks. I’ll give them a try.

M: Well, I think we are almost flying over the storm.

W: Yeah, the plane seems not to move that violently now.

Question 4: How has the woman been affected by the storm?

Question 5: What does the man say to the woman?

(四)短文聽解

1~2. W: We often learn about the examples of “air rage.” Sometimes passengers may get so angry that they have to be kept out of the planes. However, the situation has become more common around the world. In 2010, a male flight attendant in the U.S. got so mad at a rude passenger. Before takeoff, he decided to quit. Rather than wait until the end of his day, he opened the door, pressed the button for the emergency slide and threw his bags down the slide. Then he took two bottles of beer, jumped down the slide, and drove home. Finally, the police arrived at his home an hour later to arrest him.

3~4. M: Polluted air, dirty streets, and heavy traffic are familiar to people who live in modern cities. There may be a few parks in a city, but usually there are not enough green spaces. Cities around the world are now taking steps to increase the number of green spaces by planting trees and building more parks. New research shows that green spaces are just what people need for health and happiness. For example, many studies have shown that taking a relaxing walk in a forest to breathe in the fresh air can improve one’s physical and mental health. In Japanese, there is even a term for this kind of forest bathing trip called “Shinrin-yoku.”

5~6. W: Taking a long flight of 12 hours or longer can be a challenge. Here are some tips to make your flight a little easier. First, check in as early as possible so that you can choose the best seat. Second, bring some snacks, such as cookies, fruit, and candy. Third, download your favorite TV shows to watch on your laptop computer. Bring a small neck pillow, a small bag with travel soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Besides, remember to bring an eye mask; it is a “must-have” item for a good sleep. Finally, don’t drink any beer or wine, especially when you suffer from airsickness. These tips should help a lot for surviving long flights.
